Videos from first class discussion

In class we talked about transcendent performances--ones where time stopped and the performer made magic. Post the videos that had that affect on you. Here is one of mine.

    1. I'm amazed with how much she accomplishes with so little movement. She does everything with her voice.

    1. I love this too. Elaine doesn't get enough attention in the States. She owns this. "Look a new day has begun" is magical. Thanks for these videos Michael. Great choices!

  5. Loving all of these videos!

Bernadette is stunning. I especially noticed how she didn't breathe until a lyric phrase was complete, and after a while a forgot she was signing. I really appreciated her respect for the orchestra and allowing them to affect her.

    1. I've seen several different performances of hers with this song and it does seem like the song is affecting her more strongly here. But she doesn't wallow in the sadness. She fights through it. I've heard that she uses her breakup up with Steve Martin to personalize it.

    1. Laura is great. It's easy to hate on Wildhorn songs but this proves that it's the performer and their ability to tell the truth in a song that matters most. I wish I had seen this show.

    3. So inspired. I love the way that she is really able to just soak up that moment and really just let her vulnerability carry her through while still staying vocally strong.

  7. I like the audio from the musical but Glen Hansard's performance and the story behind the song is what makes the piece (although pretty simple) very transcendent. S'called Say It To Me Now
